When Should My Child See a Dentist?

Pediatric Dentistry places special importance in preventing tooth decay. Studies show that poor oral health care in children can lead to impaired school performance and poor social relationships. Therefore, Pediatric Dentists give advice on how to make teeth strong the importance of developing healthy eating habits and other ways to prevent disease from occurring. A dental visit should occur shortly after the presence of the first tooth in a child and that child’s first birthday. Early oral examination aids in the detection of tooth decay. Early detection is also essential to maintain oral health, modify aberrant habit.

Children who are weaning are highly susceptible to front teeth decay when being put to bed with a baby bottle containing milk, juice or other sugar liquids. Wiping the child's gums and teeth with a soft cloth before being put to bed can help prevent tooth decay. If your child requires a bottle at bedtime provide a bottle filled with water to prevent the growth of decay causing bacteria. The consumption of sugar, especially in sticky forms or in a baby bottle while sleeping, contributes to the rapid development of dental decay.

Additionally, parents are given a program of preventative home care (brushing/flossing/fluorides), risk assessment, the latest facts on thumb and pacifier habits, advice on preventing injuries to the mouth and teeth of their children, diet counseling, and information on growth and development.
