Q & A - Infection Control
Joint Replacement Infections and Sterilization Procedures
It is strongly recommended that a thorough dental examination for presence of tooth and gum infection is recommended prior to joint replacement. Periodontal disease may indicate that bacteria may infect the bones and joints of the joint replacement area. Our Dental Practice uses a medical autoclave device that creates a high temperature heat to sterilize equipment and other tools. This means that all bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores are inactivated. Disposable items are also used whenever possible.
